👨‍🏭 Most people I come across think that CO2e stands for "Carbon/CO2 Emissions". This is understandable given that "emissions" is the most relatable explanation for the "e".

However, CO2e actually stands for "CO2 equivalent", which is a common denominator for describing the impact of various Greenhouse Gases (GHG) have on global warming 🥵

CO2 is not the only gas responsible for Climate Change🎋

For Eg: Methane (coming from 🐄 💨 is 25x worse)

This means 1kg of methane causes 25 times more warming over a 100 year period compared to 1kg of CO2.

And it's not just Methane either, there are many others (and much worse) like Nitrogen Trifluoride used in the manufacturing of LCD displays which are 17200x worse

For any quantity and type of greenhouse gas, CO2e signifies the amount of CO2 which would have the equivalent global warming impact.

“CO2e” is a very useful term because it allows various greenhouse gases to be expressed as a single number and easily compare their impact on global warming.
